Understanding and Overcoming Vocal Impairments

What can the (specialized) physical therapist mean for this pain suffering group.

In the advanced courses of the CRAFTA education program, course members will encounter speech issues, with a particular emphasis on functional dysphonia (FD). FD is an often-underappreciated condition affecting individuals who intensely use their voice, whether professionally or otherwise. This brief outlines FD and provides a summary of what a certified CRAFTA Therapist can offer to patients dealing with this condition.

What is Functional Dysphonia?

Functional Dysphonia (FD) is a condition characterized by voice problems in the absence of a physical laryngeal pathology. It often manifests due to aberrant muscle contractions resulting in changes in voice quality (Roy and Bless 2000).

Webinar Content:

a. Exclusive Insights into CRAFTA® Statements
Our goal is to keep you updated on the current approaches we teach, supported by both internal and external evidence. (Duration: 45-60 minutes, including presentation and Q&A)

b. JAM Sessions
A patient case with head, neck, or face complaints will be presented, with a discussion of assessment and treatment. Participants are welcome to present their own cases for collaborative discussion.
(Duration: 120 minutes)

The webinars will be conducted in English.

Points and Schedule:
• Earn CRAFTA® Accreditation Points: 2 points per webinar
• Flexible Scheduling: While we aim for consistency (e.g., Wednesdays from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM for Statement webinars and Fridays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for JAM sessions), dates may be adjusted as needed.

  • Christian Voith was born in Klagenfurt/Austria. He graduated from the Academy for Physiotherapy in 1990. Afterwards he worked in different clinics, hospitals and practices in Germany for ten years. During this time he participated in a postgraduate Manual Therapy program (certificate 1994) and graduated at the European Academy for orthopedic manual therapy in Germany with the OMT (IFOMPT)-Diploma in 1997.
